FSPL (dB) = 20·log₁₀(d) + 20·log₁₀(f) + 92.45 where d is in kilometers and f is in GHz.
This formula gives the signal loss in decibels between an isotropic transmit and receive antenna pair in free space with no obstructions, reflections, or atmospheric absorption. It is the baseline loss figure used in all link budget calculations. Actual link loss will be higher due to antenna heights, terrain, rain fade, and other factors.
